The second “Concert by the Understanding of Civilizations and Human Rights”

In the Room of Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations, the maestro Daniel Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, formed by musicians from Palestine, Israel and many Arab countries, made this concert to promote the spirit of understanding and comprehension between cultures through music, celebrating the International Human Rights Day.

Thus, the headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva hosted for the second consecutive year the concert, organized by ONUART and produced by MEDIAPRO. The room again was at full capacity, counting among its guests numerous Ambassadors of the 192 countries working at the United Nations, Director of the International Organizations in Geneva, representatives of the Office of the High Commissioner of Nations United for Human Rights and also guests of the Foundation, including the most important patrons of the Foundation and President Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

Especially emotional were the words of D. Daniel Barenboim, who asked all countries to accept Syrian refugees and provide them opportunities for culture, especially when it comes to children. Especially words were about his home country, Argentina, where recalled that there were three major Syrian communities (Muslim, Jewish and Christian) and said he thought “they would be willing to lend a hand” to the victims of the war in Syria. Previously the speeches of various institutional figures such as UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-moon, accompanied by his wife and by many institutional personalities among which were performed; Michael Moller, Director General of the United Nations in Geneva, Mr. Joachim Rucker, President of the World Human Rights Council of the United Nations, Mr. Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Nassir Abdulaziz Al- Nasser, United Nations High Commissioner for the Alliance of Civilizations, Mr. Luis Enrique Chávez Basagoitia, Permanent Ambassador of Peru in Geneva and President of the Foundation D. Miguel Angel Moratinos.

During the concert, the orchestra, led by its founder, performed the following works of W. A. Mozart. W. A. Mozart – Symphony No. 39 in E-flat major, K. 543 (1788): 1. Adagio, cut time – Allegro 2. Andante 3. Menuetto with motto: 4. Trio Allegro W. A. Mozart – Symphony No.40 in G minor, K. 550 (1788): 1. Molto allegro 2. Andante 3. Menuetto allegretto 4. Finale Allegro assai W. A. Mozart – Symphony No. 41 in C major, K.551 (1788): 1. Allegro vivace Andante cantabile 2. 3. Menuetto: Allegretto 4. Allegro Molto

The concert was broadcasted and distributed to various television channels worldwide. In the case of Spain it was broadcast on December 12 by RTVE2 and also by Canal 33 on 25 December and in January this year. Internationally issued by DUNATV, Hungary on December 10, by RTP, Portugal, on December 11, by CLASSICA, that December 10 was issued by different platforms in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Poland, Philippines, Romania, Slovakia, South Africa, Switzerland and Taiwan, by NBC in Namibia, MBC Mauritius, the Public TV of Armenia, also on December 10 and finally Argentina channel 13 on Christmas Eve at 22:00 and TVM Tunisia January 8.
