The Group of Friends of the Foundation, an association created at the 5th Ordinary General Meeting of the Board, is to contribute to the dissemination and international awareness of the purpose of ONUART, on the basis of free information and promotion of its projects. The group, whose members are all people related to the human rights community, the Arts, International Relations, Spanish civil society and Swiss institutions (representing the host country of the UN office in Geneva) focuses its work in its first stage of operation (2009/2010) on spreading the artistic and humanitarian ONUART’s first major project, the Human Rights and the Alliance of Civilisations Room, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
The Group of Friends of the Foundation is chaired by the Ambassador of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Joaquin de Arístegui Laborde which was Ambassador Deputy Representative of the Spanish Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva and former Secretary of the Board of ONUART.
In 2010, the content of a cycle of conferences is being developed with visual support, which the Group of Friends will make available to different institutions.
The Spanish Art as a Channel of Dialogue
Mallorca, March 25th 2010.-Within the programme of activities commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Mallorca, there was the conference on Art and Human Rights, which the Director General of ONUART, Mr. Jorge Lasheras, had the opportunity to offer to the members of the Club.
The conference, held in Mallorca CaixaForum on March 25, was met with great interest, and the unanimous feeling of the public was that it was a benchmark artistic work for future generations of artists.
The conference in Mallorca was the first in the conference programme on Spanish art as a channel of dialogue and Human Rights, which the Group of Friends of ONUART planned for 2010.
